I’m inviting you to an evening at the Hayshed Gallery to celebrate my new solo exhibition, BECOMING — and I’d love you to come.

SO, WHAT IS BECOMING ABOUT?

We don’t always become ourselves by adding more, sometimes we become ourselves by letting go.

Letting go of the expectations, relationships, identities and ideas that no longer fit.

The women in these works are at different points along that journey. Some are bold and cheeky, taking up space and enjoying their own power. Others celebrate the independence and agency that comes with having the freedom to choose. And some are quieter, turning inward and finding their way through change.

Together, the works explore the process of tearing down, rebuilding and growing into something new.

Because becoming sometimes requires stripping away everything that isn’t you, until you have room to grow into who you were all along.

COME SEE IT IN PERSON

There’s something about seeing paintings in a gallery that you just don’t get from Instagram.

The layers of paint, collage, gold leaf, marks and textures. The little details that disappear on a screen.

And, of course, you get to see the whole collection together — which is where the story of BECOMING really starts to make sense.

I’ll be there on the night, so come and have a look around, have a drink, and come and say hi.

You can ask me about the work, the ideas behind it, my process, or what the hell I was thinking when I painted something.

Come for the art, stay for the chat.

The gallery evening is Saturday 31 October from 5–7pm at the Hayshed Gallery at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick.

There’ll be drinks, the exhibition, and me hanging around for the evening.

And if you feel like keeping the night going, we’ll head out for drinks afterwards.

It’s completely free to attend.
