Learning Outcomes
If you've ever wanted to try your hand at painting faces, but didn't quite feel you had the skills, join me, and I'll show you an easy way to get that portrait down on paper.
By the end of the session, you’ll have the confidence and skills to continue experimenting and creating at home.
During this workshop, you will:
- Develop a strong understanding of value, layering, and glazing techniques.
- Create vibrant, dynamic backgrounds that enhance your subject.
- Master carbon transfer and charcoal shading for a structured yet expressive portrait.
- Experiment with high-flow acrylics, spray paints, and stencils to add visual interest and depth.
- Understand how to mix and apply skin tones using complementary colours.
- Explore mixed media elements like Posca pens and Sakura markers to bring your portrait to life.
- Gain confidence in your creative intuition and artistic decision-making.
What's Included
All necessary materials are provided as part of your workshop fee, including:
- All art materials, including premium 400gsm A2 paper, acrylic inks, spray paints, charcoal, and mixed media tools.
- Expert instruction and hands-on guidance throughout the day.
- Access to a fully equipped studio with specialised tools.
- A welcoming and inspiring environment where experimentation is encouraged.
- Tea, coffee, and light morning and afternoon refreshments
What to Bring
A colour version of your reference image (can be on your phone or tablet).
Lunch
While you can visit nearby cafés, they are a short drive away, and parking may be limited. Bringing your own lunch will allow you to maximize your painting and learning time.
Old Clothes or Apron
Please wear something you don’t mind getting paint on.
Respirator (Optional)
If you're sensitive to vapours, you may want to bring a respirator, as we will be using spray paints outdoors for a small portion of the class.
Enthusiasm and a willingness to dive into the creative process!

What is Mixed Media Art?
Mixed media art is all about breaking boundaries and giving you the freedom to experiment.
Instead of sticking to just one material, you can combine paint, collage, ink, textiles, or even found objects to create layered, textured, and dynamic pieces.
It’s an expressive, hands-on way to bring your ideas to life—whether you want to capture emotions, tell a story, or simply play with different techniques.
There are no rules, just endless possibilities for you to explore.
