Hello, and welcome to my review of week seven of the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program.
This week was focused on painting a cityscape in oils, and I have to admit, it was challenging.
Ellie warned us that this would be the hardest week, and she was not wrong.
I found the charcoal drawings to be less challenging than the oil painting portion of the assignment. However, the drawings were still intimidating, as we were tasked with drawing complex compositions featuring groups of people and buildings. It required a lot of focus and attention to detail.
The oil painting, on the other hand, was incredibly difficult. Matching colors, finding the focal point, and making it stand out were all challenging aspects of this week's assignment. The focal point was not necessarily in the foreground but in the middle ground, making it even harder to pinpoint.
I spent more time than I should have on this painting, and I am relieved that it's over. However, I recognise that this week was essential in helping me develop the skills necessary to tackle complex compositions in the future.

One thing that was brought up in the forum was the lack of enjoyment in part one of the mastery program. While I can understand this sentiment, I believe that this program is not just about having fun and improving skills but about building commitment and grit. Even if my progress is not immediately visible, I know that I am developing the skills needed to excel in as an artist. |
I am eager to move on to week eight and continue learning how to paint at home through the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program. Despite the challenges of this week, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from talented instructors and fellow artists.
