Hi, my name is Criss Chaney and I am excited to be embarking on the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program, a one-year online course that promises to teach me the skills I need to become a professional artist.
Before I start this journey, I wanted to share what my paintings look like now, so that I can measure my progress over the course of the program.
These are three paintings that I have completed shortly before starting the program, and I am very happy with them. While I was making these, I felt like there was a lot of flow and I was in the moment. I could imagine myself making more of these or working like this for awhile.
They didn't take long to paint, and what I learned was, that I like to work quickly, and I don't want paintings to take too long. These are mixed media, acrylic, collage spray paint, and gold leaf. I don't currently work with oil paints, so one of my goals for the program is to learn how to oil paint.
I am a Melbourne artist, and I have spent the past year working on techniques and materials and gaining skills, but I haven't really figured out why I am drawn to portraiture and why I choose to incorporate certain elements. Being able to understand what my work is about will help me to push the work more towards being about that.
One of the things I want to get out of this program is to discover more about myself and my way of working so that I can lean into my temperament.
Sometimes in the studio, things can be a little bit of a struggle, and things sometimes don't quite flow. I want to learn more about myself and learn more how I can translate the way that I paint to suit my personality type.
I am excited to see how much I can learn from this program and how it can transform my art. Over the course of the next year, I will be sharing my progress with you through blog posts and videos, and I invite you to follow along with me on this journey.
